Wednesday, February 5 (Washington, D.C.) — In response to the House Ways and Means Committee’s call for comments on tax issues under its jurisdiction, Grid Action submitted formal comments to the committee recommending that electric transformers be made eligible for the Section 45X Advanced Manufacturing Production Tax Credit.
Our recommendation represents the first of many steps Grid Action will be taking to advance policies that maximize the domestic production of critical bulk power equipment and follows warnings from Wood Mackenzie and the Department of Energy that insufficient production capacity and shortages of key inputs like grain-oriented electric steel and copper are causing sharp price increases and increasingly lengthy delays for the delivery of electric transformers required for needed transmission build.
